Ayela has since helped develop elderly malnutrition strategies with key UK health organisations including Age UK, the Malnutrition Task Force and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and has also been involved in nutrition research for the UK’s Department of Health and National Patient Safety Agency.

Alex is a Senior Research Fellow and Registered UK Nutritionist based at the University of Aberdeen, Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. She leads internationally competitive research in the area of human appetite control across the life course. More recent work has been on regulation of appetite with high-protein diets applied for satiety and weight loss, and also healthy ageing and addressing undernutrition . She is a reviewer for national and International scientific journals.. Her role at the Institute, being funded by the Scottish Executive, requires interactions with policy makers and advisors & MSP’s. The nature of her work also facilitates frequent interactions with the media, press and food industry within the arena of nutrition, diet and health. She is a partner in 3 EU grants, as well as other competitive grants, assessing eating behaviour across the lifecourse.
